The credit union will conduct its annual election for two positions on the seven-member board of directors. The directors will take office after the annual meeting to be held February 26, 2013. The nominating committee has filed the names of the following nominees, all incumbent directors, to serve three-year terms: Dr. Julie Furstenau and Mrs. Carol Odell. Because the number of nominees equals the number of positions to be filled, there will be no nominations from the floor at the annual meeting. An election by ballot will not be conducted, unless there are other nominations by petition.
Here are the qualifications and biographical information for the two nominees:
Dr. Julie Furstenau has served the credit union since 1999, as a member of the supervisory committee and the board of directors. She is currently the vice chair of the board. Dr. Furstenau is a chemistry teacher and the science department chair at Doherty High School in Colorado Springs, CO. She earned her Ph.D. in chemistry from Montana State University at Bozeman, her M.A. in teaching from The Colorado College, and her B.S. in chemistry from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
Mrs. Carol Odell has served the credit union since 2003 as a director. She is currently the secretary of the board. Mrs. Odell is CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado. She earned her M.A. in sociology and her M.A. in counseling from the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs, and her B.S. from the University of Missouri.
Additional nominations for the board may only be made by petition signed by one percent of the members. That means the minimum number of petition signatures by our voting members (age 18 or older) is 439. Each nominee by petition must submit a statement of qualifications and biographical information similar to that of the nominees above. To be effective, a nomination by petition must be accompanied by a signed certificate from the nominee that he or she is agreeable to nomination and will serve if elected to office. It is established board policy that all nominees must submit to a background investigation. The closing date for receiving nominations by petition is November 15, 2012.
