Use up to date anti-spyware software. Spyware is only slightly less of a threat
than viruses. Generally, spyware collects information on a user’s web usage and
reports it back to a collection site, but spyware can contain the same malicious
code found in viruses. Spyware also has the surprising ability to slip past anti-virus,
firewalls, and careful web surfing to embed itself in your PC. There are many commercial
and freely available anti-spyware applications available. I recommend using more
than one, as many applications will miss spyware that another might detect. Run
each application on a regular basis and make sure to keep it up to date. |
