Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and 2017 has a lot of great gifts to offer! Here are a few ideas to get you started along with some interesting stats for Valentine’s Day from 2013 through 2016 that was reported! The top three gifts were Chocolate and/or Candy, Flowers, and Jewelry. 

 

Chocolate/Candy: Did you know?

1,233 manufacturing establishments produced chocolate and cocoa products in 2016, employing 38,794 people. In 2016, 47.5% of gifts given was chocolate or candy. California led the nation with 129 establishments followed by Pennsylvania with 114 in 2013. 448 establishments manufactured non-chocolate products in 2013, employing 19,308 people. California led this category as well with 45 establishments.

$14.9 billion is the estimated value of chocolate and cocoa products shipped across the U.S in 2014.  

3,368 is the number of confectionery and nut stores in the U.S in 2013.

 

Flowers: Did you know?

There were 24,600 florists nationwide in 2016, employing 123,600 people.

$272,180,347 is the total value of imported flowers and buds for bouquets in 2014. As of October 2014, the value of fresh cut roses was $382 million, and increased to $403 million in 2016.  

In 2016, 34.3% of gifts given were flowers.

Jewelry: Did you know?

27,484 was the number of Jewelry stores in the U.S. in 2016 with an estimated sale of $2.2 billion.

Proposal, did you know?

47.7% of people that were 15 years or old reportedly being married, except those that are already separated.

Nevada ranks number one nationally in marriage rates, followed by Hawaii.

2.10 billion marriages took place in the U.S. in 2012. That breaks down to approximately 5,800 per day! In 2016, an average of 2.16 million marriages took place, and an average of 904 dating service establishments nationwide.

In 2016, 17.3% of all gifts given was jewelry.
